It has all the characteristics of a hip and happening eatery. It’s down a side alley, with stylish, authentic decor, and a bustling bar scene, appealing menu, and professional service.

Tablao Wine Bar & Restaurant has all that, achieving this a few short nights after opening in late May. Tablao is a Spanish-Mediterranean-style dining destination founded in South Norwalk’s thriving foodie district by South American restauranteurs Vinny Gonzalez, Galo Aleman, and Jose-Luis Contreras. “It is an intimate locale that evokes the style and sensibility of a modern wine and tapas bar one would find alone the cafe dotted streets of Seville, Spain,” says Gonzalez.

It has an extensive menu, including more than 30 tapas offerings, such as chicken and beef empanadas, cheese croquette, steamed octopus, duck breast, lamb chops, and Mediterranean crabcakes. There is classic and seafood paella. And a seafood-heavy entree list includes salmon, branzino, seafood linguini, osso buco, chicken Scarpiello, and hanger steak.

The top shelf of the bar alone has more bottles than many places, and the drink and wine menu provide plenty of offerings.
