Fairfield’s Best Restaurant with the Best Service
Martel Bistro voted Best in two categories for 2020 by Fairfield Magazine readers.
What makes a local legend? A place that looks and feels good without being flamboyant. A place that is stylish and sophisticated but has no arrogance about it. Somewhere you would be just as comfortable taking a family member, a business associate, or a date and feel everything is appropriate for the occasion. Somewhere you could go for a quick burger or sandwich or a three-course dinner, or just dessert, coffee, and aperitif after a movie. Where the experience is always so spot on every time that it is always top of mind when deciding where to dine out.
That is Martel Bistro. Opened in February 2009, it has endured and grown more polished with age. The menu is a balanced mix of what might be called American casual dining with a French flair. It is a restaurant where nearly everything served is created on premise, from the mayonnaise to the salmon gravlax and beyond. No corners cut. No menu verbiage where one would need a dictionary. And sane price points. The restaurant is staffed by faces that customers see time and again on subsequent visits. They are professionals who deliver consistently efficient, knowledgeable service and are skilled at taking care of guests. Practically an all-French wine list by the glass and bottle and supersized martinis and cocktails, customers appreciate the good value proposition. The flowers and paintings are done by the owner’s wife, and the window boxes that are always spectacular as is the summer outdoor wall garden framing the patio seating.
