The New Canaan Land Trust is proud to announce
the installation of Passages, a preview of the New Canaan Sculpture
Trail. This outdoor art exhibit was designed in partnership with the Carriage
Barn Arts Center to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, April 22, 2020
and to uniquely connect residents and visitors to our natural surroundings.

“It was important for us to install this signature piece as a
hopeful reminder of better days ahead and to show the essential connection
between art and nature,” commented Aaron Lefland, New Canaan Land Trust
Executive Director. He continued, “We believe that Passages will
serve as an inspiration to the entire community in the weeks and months to
come.”

The full New Canaan Sculpture Trail exhibition is scheduled to
open in late spring or early summer and will include eight juried sculptures positioned
at Land Trust preserves, New Canaan Town Hall and at the Carriage Barn
courtyard at Waveny Park.

Passages, created by Norwalk-based artist,
Thomas S. Berntsen, is a series of seven, eight-foot-tall panels that meander
along a path in the center of the Hannan-Eberstadt Preserve, located at the
corner of Smith Ridge (Rt. 123) and Canoe Hill Roads in New Canaan, CT. The
panels are designed as individual portals of mirror, light, and color. Each has
its own distinct pattern, which was inspired by and borrowed from the famous
13th-century labyrinth at Chartres Cathedral in France.

“Passages represents a series of sculptures that
reflect, refract and extenuate their natural surroundings.” Berntsen explained.
“Composed of dichroic film, each frame reacts to minute changes in the
environment in a myriad of ways, responding to small movements of angle and
light. Each visit, and each time of day, will create a unique and memorable
experience.”

In response to the town of New Canaan’s closure of all town parks,
the Land Trust temporarily closed public access to its preserves, however, Passages
can be easily viewed from the road. Visitors who wish to park their vehicles
are strongly advised to do so along Canoe Hill Road.

The New Canaan Sculpture Trail has been made possible by the

As women are finding their voices and making an impact throughout the professional world, the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum, in collaboration with Silvermine Arts Center, will inaugurate its 2020 Season and celebrate women’s artistic contributions by opening a new exhibition titled, About Women, on April 2, 2020, 12-4 p.m. The exhibition will run through June 21, 2020.

Curated by Silvermine Gallery Director Roger Mudre, the exhibition will feature selected works by female members of the Silvermine Guild of Artists and provide an overview that will celebrate their diverse directions in subject matter and media and their contributions to contemporary art.

A former Silvermine trustee and Board Chair, Mr. Mudre is responsible for Silvermine’s Gallery exhibitions, installations and related programming. He is a Lifetime Silvermine Guild member and practicing artist with works in numerous private and corporate collections.

Exhibiting artists will include: Rita Banouk, Caroline Bergonzi, Karen Brussat Butler, April Hammock, Elizabeth Higgins, Judith Steinberg, and Susan Stillman, among others, who are members of the notable Silvermine Guild of Artists, where renowned artists, Elaine de Kooning, Alice Neel, Louise Nevelson, Faith Ringgold and others socialized, exchanged ideas, and critiqued each other’s works for nearly a century.

NORWALK, CT – Music Theatre of Connecticut MainStage,
Fairfield County’s professional award-winning theatre company concludes its 33^rd
season with the rockin’ and rollin’ Buddy
– The Buddy Holly Story. This production is sponsored in part by Shoff
Darby Insurance of Norwalk. Buddy allows
its audiences to experience the ups and downs of Holly’s ‘budding’ musical
career as he strives to fulfil his potential genius. The heart-warming, great
for all ages tale of a small town all-American boy is told with care, detail
and humor. The musical finally explodes into a celebration of youth and lust
for life in a re-creation of his last concert at Clear Lake! Buddy
– The Buddy Holly Story will run May 15^th-31^st with
performances on Fridays at 8pm, Saturdays at 4pm and 8pm and Sundays at 2pm.
There will be one Thursday performance on May 21^st at 1pm.

Buddy tells the story of the tragically short life of Buddy Holly,
who along with high-school friends the Crickets, turned country music upside
down to create some of the best rock ‘n’ roll songs ever written. We share
Buddy’s frustrations through his first recording contract; the excitement
America felt when ‘That’ll Be The Day’ hit #1; his naïve determination to be
the first white act to play the Apollo Theatre, Harlem; his whirlwind romance
and marriage to Maria Elena; concluding with the ill-fated ‘Winter Dance Party’
tour of the Midwest and what in theatre must be one of the most incredible
musical concerts of all-time. Don’t miss out, this is your chance to see Buddy
sing his way through two hours of the best rock ‘n’ roll you’ll ever hear!

Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story is led by Kyle Jurassic as Buddy
Holly (Buddy– Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City, Rock of Ages- Nt’l
Tour) and features Michael Ray Fisher (B’way- Rocktopia), Paul Binotto
(B’way- Dream Girls, Hair, Starlight Express), Josh R. McLemore (Buddy-
Sixth Street Playhouse, King John, Love’s Labours Lost- Texas
Shakespeare Festival), Peter McClung (Off B’way- Baby, Third Time’s A Charm),
Aaron Downs (A Christmas Carol- Nt’l Tour), Robert Mobley (Central
Park West, Della Ventura- CBS), Denise Michelle Johnson (As The World
Turns, Law & Order SVU- TV), Blanca Grande (South Pacific in
Concert– Norwalk Symphony Orchestra), Blair Alexis Brown (Goldstein, A
Scythe of Time- Off B’way), and Gian Raffaele DiCostanzo (Jersey Boys- NCL).

This production is directed by Kevin Connors with musical
supervision by Eric Anthony and stage manager Jim Schilling. The creative team
includes scenic design by Jessie Lizotte, lighting design by RJ Romeo, sound
design by Joe Boerst, costume design by Diane Vanderkroef, and props design by
Merrie Deitch.
