Well-Read & Well-Fed
The Reading Room Cafe
Back in the 1890s when the village of Katonah was famously relocated, the library was rolled onto its side, its books still on the shelves, then placed upright on Edgemont Road. Today, the building’s new owners, Gretchen and Peter Menzies of Bedford Corners, have appropriately christened their café The Reading Room.
Katonah’s newest eatery is located around the corner from the train station, as well as the Menzies’ other business, Little Joe’s Coffee and Books. Locals are treated to a lovingly restored space where friends can quietly linger over a cup of fair-trade coffee or quickly grab a healthy salad.
A fixture on the local foodie scene for years, Peter Menzies explains that this latest venture is a natural next step. He says, “There’s demand for a place for people to come, sit and have a fresh, gourmet meal. We have a special twist on the traditional breakfast and lunch menus.”
To that end, The Reading Room staff includes chefs hailing from the Inn at Pound Ridge who are busy cooking up everything from homemade granola to special sandwich combos. For those on the run, take-out and gourmet groceries are available.
